How to get from Petra to Wadi Rum

how to get from petra to wadi rumIf you’reĀ travelling around Jordan on your own, one of the main routes you’ll probably undertake at some point will be getting from Petra to Wadi Rum, and vice versa.

Of course, if you take an organized (and budget-friendly) tour, all the logistics are taken care of…but as you’re already reading this, we’ll presume you’re not on one of those tours…

The easiest and cheapest way to get from Petra to Wadi Rum is the daily bus from Petra, which leaves every morning from around 7 am. The best way to catch this bus is to ask your hotel to book you a seat the night before, as this bus does a round of all the relevant hotelsĀ each morning. The price should be around 7 JD.

You can also get a private car for the drive down to Wadi Rum, which should set you back around 35 JD. Just be aware that your driver is not a guide – and once you arrive at Wadi Rum, any tour or desert camp that you pre-arranged will have its own guide(s).

Your last option is a taxi – that will probably set you back in the region of 35-45 JD.

To get from Wadi Rum to Petra, you can catch the same hotel bus you came down on, which leaves Wadi Rum at around 9 am every morning. Note that buses (and mini-buses) are a bit of a mystery unto themselves as to when and where they exactly leave, so it’s always best to get a local to check for you.
